This blog post is designed to showcase a selection of the work I have made to support my studies this year. Throughout the course of this year I have experimented with a range of different animation styles and have decided to focus on stop motion.
Throughout the year i have been attending Vanessa’s life drawing classes on Thursdays. This has helped me gain a better understanding of character form and movement.
During the first term of this year I began using TV paint for my animation work. I found this software difficult to use and have since began to explore using stop motion. It was a useful learning experience however and I am glad to still be familiar with the software.
A selection of animators I have researched during my studies this year. Each one contains surrealist elements and follows a stop motion discipline. Each film has has played a role in informing my work and show styles I would like to pursue more in the future.
A selection of character design sketches used for a variety of different projects this year. Each one is using different media and aimed at learning a different animation technique.
These images show the different medias I have used this year in the stop motion pathway. I have been using Claymation, puppet making, charcoal, paper cut and sand on glass.
These are stills from a selection of the reference videos I have been using this year. I have also included a photo of Group B using the sound recording booths for the lip sync project.
I have experimented this year with compositing different images and animations to form visual displays. Some of this was recently used on RTE Ireland for Bambie Thugs performance for Eurosong.
From the skills I have learnt during Unit one, I have engaged in a collaborative project with an MA Performance Design and Practice student.
We plan to create an installation piece using animation and projection to explore the narrative of Pandora’s Box.
This project is in its early stages, however it is likely that stop motion will be the prevailing animation style.
